Here’s how to make a Scotch Egg. What we are going to do is spread a potato mixture around the boiled eggs and then fry the eggs in oil. Eggs made in this way you have sometimes seen in Sri Lanka. “Scotch Egg” is not so popular in Sri Lanka but it is quite popular in Europe. If you want to serve eggs made like this with rice or something made for a special occasion. But what we usually do is eat a “scotch egg” with something like sauce.
- 5 Eggs with boiled bones removed
- 250 g of boiled mashed potatoes
- A chopped onion
- 5-6 Chopped curry leaves
- 1 tbsp Turmeric powder
- 1 tbsp Pepper
- A little bit of salt
- 2 Chopped raw chilli pods
- 1 egg yolk
- One cup of bread flour
- 1 cup of bread powder (also known as biscuit powder)
- Oil for frying
How to Make:
First, heat a little oil in a pan.
When the oil heats up, add the curry leaves, green chillies and salt and fry for a while.
When the onions are cooked, add the yolks, chillies, boiled and mashed onions and bring to the boil. Add a pinch of salt at this time.
When the potatoes are a little warm, turn off the stove and let them cool down a bit (this is the potato mixture).
Then all you have to do is take the potato mixture and spread this potato mixture around the “boiled eggs”. This means that the mixture sticks like a single layer around the egg. When you look at the photos of the food we make, you can understand exactly what it says.
After spreading the potato mixture around all the eggs in this way, we need to spread the bread flour on top of that layer of potatoes in the eggs.
Next, add the “egg yolks” to the beaten eggs.
Once the egg yolks have thickened, spread the bread crumbs on top. The bread crumbs stick well because the eggs are fermented.
OK! Look at this. I’m going to tell you again how to do this work. First, we need to dip the potato mixture in the eggs. Then roll in bread crumbs, egg yolks and biscuit powder. that is all!
Now all that is left is to deep fry the eggs in this way. Heat some oil and fry the eggs in it. That work will not be difficult for you. But don’t worry too much, just put the eggs in the oil and let the oil rise.
that is all! Once the eggs are fried, they are nicely decorated and sent to the table. game over!
If you want to decorate, you can do this,
First, take a shallow dish and place some nice lettuce around it.
Then cut the fried eggs horizontally into 2 pieces and place them neatly in the salad bowl. Put a little sauce on top of the eggs. Or set aside a little of the sauce separately.
If you like, you can add something like fried prawns to garnish it a little more.
Boil the eggs for about 10 minutes. That’s when the yolk boils nicely. Some people make this “Scotch Egg” without boiling the yolks too much.
