We literally say that rice is Sri Lankan staple food. That’s true. Even though our lifestyle today is addicted to various fast foods, rice is one of the healthiest and most energizing foods. It is now customary to eat rice in our country as well as in other countries. Rice can be prepared and eaten in a variety of ways.
The world population, including virtually all of East and Southeast Asia, is wholly dependent upon rice as a staple food; 95% of the world’s rice crop is eaten by humans. It is eaten alone and in a great variety of soups, side dishes, and main dishes in Asian, Middle Eastern, and many other cuisines. Other products in which rice is used are breakfast cereals, noodles, and such alcoholic beverages as Japanese. Now let’s see how to cook rice.
.
Things you Need
- 1Kg of rice
- 1 1/2 tablespoons of coconut oil (to keep the rice from sticking to each other)
- Rampe leaf (optional. If you put it in, the rice will smell)
- 1 teaspoon of salt
- To the required amount of water
How to Make:
Grind the rice and wash it well to remove sand/stones.
Place the washed rice in a bowl (a saucepan or a clay pot) and add water to 2 inches above the level of the rice (this varies depending on the type of rice) Then put on the stove and cook.
Cook for about 30-40 minutes. Then take a few grains of rice and see if they are well cooked.
If the rice is well cooked and there is no water left in another pot, remove the rice from the stove (if there is still water left in the pot, strain the water and cook on low heat for a while).
Now it is ready to eat.
